 A big band is almost unique in its ability to draw audience attention. A live, full sized dance orchestra at your event signals CLASS ACT to everyone who attends. Make sure you talk to the bandleader when you are discussing dates and before yours is "set in stone" with other reservations. While your average "wedding band" of 5 to 8 pieces might be able to play some swing tunes, it doesn't make the audible and visual statement you can expect from a big band. One way or the other, the event should match the entertainment. Obviously you may not wish to book a swing band for a "heavy metal" theme party. A big band fits well with a " 40's night" "An Evening on Broadway", " Gatsby's Follies" or something similar. A good band is frequently booked months in advance. Sometimes it is good to see when the band is available and THEN book the hall. It is a shame to have to settle for lesser entertainment when the band was hired by someone else the week before! When selecting a band you may wish to answer the following questions: The Big Band is rehearsed weekly so that you may be assured of an ensemble that meets the highest standards. The best bands are the ones that rehearse together and perform together on a regular basis. While we may bring in a professional "sub" from time to time, you will see mostly the same players at each performance. The Big Band will perform in Tuxedos and our equipment is the equal of any of the traveling "road bands" We will not bring a shabby appearance to your event! The Big Band provides a professional performance contract. All details of our expectations of the employer and what our employer may expect from us are spelled out in the contract. The Big Band will gladly provide references from recent clients. If we perform for YOUR event, we will ask for a reference from you! We will need a bandstand riser of 24 x 24 feet. Additional staging may be used depending on the effect you desire, but this is the minimum floor space. The employer is expected to provide chairs of a type specified in the contract. The Big Band will provide sound and lighting appropriate to our needs. While we can provide an electric piano, you may wish to consider renting a tuned upright or grand piano. We want to work!
